George Evans: “Want to know something about Basil Evans? His father was badly burnt from the tapestry due to the fact that he married a muggle and his uncle was extremely jealous of him because he was a Squib.”
Leland Evans: “Great-Great-Great-Gramps, I can assure you I have no relation to that muggle and Crabbe, Goyle, Abby, Julia, and Bulstrode would agree.”
(Gregory Goyle, Vincent Crabbe, Abby Evans, Julia Evans, and Millicent Bulstrode nod their heads as they agree with Leland)
George Evans: “I know why you kids are denying. Let me tell you something, your second great-grandpa, Henry is the younger brother of my son James. James married a Hela family member named Amelia and then he had his first son Nelson. Then, they had their next son, Crawford. I visited them once in a while and I even witnessed the sibling rivalry between Nelson and Crawford due to the fact that Crawford was a Squib, which was the only part of the Evans family and is different than your great-grandfather John’s eight older sisters Emily, Katherine, Ellen, Jennet, Quinta, Sexta, and Septima; John himself; and John’s younger brother Hawthorne. Emily and Edward your great-grandparents, Vincent. Tiberius and Ellen are your great-grandparents, Millicent. Gregory, your grandparents are Graham and Melissa, but Melissa is the sister of Leland’s grandpa Carl. Melissa and Carl are John’s kids, I never got to meet them as a real human but I am still one of the ghosts, just like Liam O’HEimhin and the others bearing the surname “Evans” such as Gideon, my granddad Byron, and my dad William Leland but he prefers Leland. Crawford Evans married a muggle Frances and Basil is their son, but Crawford has been burned by Nelson from the tapestry through his jealousy and that is why you fellow Slytherins, my great-great-great-grandchildren or shall I say descendants are denying.”
- George Evans, a ghost, explaining details of the Evans family.
Basil Evans was a Muggle, married to Glenda Evans. He had two daughters: Petunia and Lily Evans. The family lived in Cokeworth, near the home of the dysfunctional Snape family.
Basil is the son of a Squib father Crawford Evans and a Muggle mother Frances Evans.
While Petunia was a Muggle like her parents, Lily was a Muggle-born witch and will enjoy the Wizarding world, something Mr. Evans and Mrs. Evans were very proud of. Petunia, on the other hand, was jealous and considered her sister a "freak". Mr. and Mrs. Evans suffered a normal Muggle death, though the exact cause is unknown; it was sometime before the murder of their younger daughter in 1981.
Through his elder daughter, they are related to the Muggle Dursley family, and through the younger, to the wizarding Potter and Weasley families.
Both died sometime between 31 July, 1971 and 31 October, 1981.
Leland Evans, Abby Evans, Julia Evans, Millicent Bulstrode, Vincent Crabbe, and Gregory Goyle denied that he was related to them.
In 2018, Albus Potter, one of Basil's great-grandsons, saw Basil through the Eye of the Worlds. Basil had shown himself a man stern and authoritarian man and seemed to be the only Albus' great-grandfather who owned hair.

- "I was the only one who saw her for what she was ... a freak! But for my mother and father, oh no, it was Lily this and Lily that, they were proud of having a witch in the family!"
- —Petunia to Harry Potter on Lily.
Mr. Evans and his wife were extremely proud of their youngest daughter, Lily, and was slightly in awe of her magical abilities.
However, this made Petunia feel left out and jealous of her sister.
