Carl Hopkins was a Gryffindor student who began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1989.
During the 1996–1997 school year, he took N.E.W.T.-level Potions, as he someday hoped to be an Auror. He confessed to Harry Potter, in the year 1996-1997, that he would like a new broom. He also admits it is a disaster in Potions. At the year's end, he can be seen walking in the Entrance Courtyard, near Scott Ancrum. He is the older brother of Wayne Hopkins.
Carl fought in the Battle of Hogwarts. For much of the battle, he had defended the castle entrance of several Dementors with his patronus in the form of an eagle. He and Scott were able to contain the dementors until the Giants appeared. Carl could not beat them and ended up dead. His body was taken to the Great Hall by his younger brother and Grant Page.
