Biography[]
Early Life[]
Childhood[]
Dorea Black was born on 12 March, 1920, in 12 Grimmauld Place to Cygnus Black II and Violetta Bulstrode, and grew up alongside her older brothers of Pollux and Marius, as well as her older sister Cassiopeia in Bulstrode Castle, which was her mother's birthplace and ancestral home and belonged to her. She was often spoiled and made a fuss of by both siblings and parents and was given only the best of the best, which might have led her to becoming a precious and spoilt child, which luckily did not happen. Her artistic nature manifested when when her tears were bribed away with artistic supplies with which she would busy herself, making quite the mess and painting pink skies and lavender grass while ignoring the boy colors entirely. This happy life soon blighted at age 5, when her mother died and Marius was exposed as a Squib and disowned. Nevertheless, Dorea was the only family member who did not mock or look with contempt at him and retained contact with him. She also had a close and loving relationship with the Black's house elf, Kreacher, and her mother's castle's own two personal house-elf butlers, Silvery and Wonky, who she all treated with kindness resulting in all three of them being fiercely loyal to her.
Hogwarts Years[]
At age 11, Dorea attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted to the Slytherin House. During her first time on the Hogwarts Express, she shared her compartment with a Gryffindor in her year, Charlus Potter, who proceeded to annoy her throughout her first and second years. In her third year, however, the childish teasing that neither she nor Charlus understood turned into friendship, and they sought each other out for company and when choosing electives. It was inevitable when they became a recognized couple in their fourth year, during which Dorea added tempered Charlus' devil-may-cure nature and provided the counterpoint to his goofiness. He encouraged her in continuing her artistic pursuits with a quieter and more serious nature, becoming the focus of her first steps in portraiture himself. Her family agreed with the Potters found the relationship between the two as a good 'good pure-blood match' (as the Potters were greatly respected throughout the entire wizarding world and were well connected with nearly every pure-blood family due to generations of marrying pure-bloods), and betrothed Dorea to Charlus in their seventh and last year at school.
Marriage and family[]
Dorea and Charlus were married shortly after their graduation from Hogwarts, and took up residence together in an apartment above a small shop they bought in Vertick Alley. With her new husband finding work as a photographer for the Daily Prophet, she turned the shop into a pretty art gallery where both her own work and that of other associating artists.
Trivia[]
- The fact that, unlike her cousin, Cedrella Weasley (nee Black), Dorea was not disowned for her marriage to the Potters, means that, despite their reputation as a non-muggle-hating pure-blood family, the Potters were still a respectable family and it would be an honour to be a member of them in the Black's eyes.
