Edwina Whisp (née Gibbon) (10 July, 1792–26 January, 1886) was an Irish Pure-blood witch. She married Muggle-born William Whisp and was therefore disinherited from the Gibbon family. She enjoyed crochet, knitting and dancing.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Edwina grew up in a stone house in Kilkenny county in Ireland. She came from a family of pure-blood supremacists, and her father used to tell her stories about her ancestors, such as Bailintin Gibbon who banished the Ballybunion Banshee.

She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1803 and was sorted into Slytherin. During a Care of Magical Creatures class in her third year she first saw William Whisp and fell in love but out of fear from being scorned by her fellow Slytherins for being in love with a Muggle-born she never introduced herself, or told William about her feelings.

Marriage and later life[]

Edwina stayed in love with William and after she learned that he was working at the Three Broomsticks she started to visit the inn regularly. After a year she introduced herself and as soon as she did William professed that he had the same feelings for her as she did for him.

The couple married and moved into a cottage in Hogsmeade and had three children together named Honeysuckle, Alcaster and Eglantyne. Because of his her family disowned her and pretended she didn't exist. Edwina worked as a landlady for the Three Broomsticks until she retired.

Etymology[]

  • Edwina - means "wealthy friend" in English.
  • Whisp - derivered from "wisp", meaning "a small bundle of straw" in Old English.
  • Gibbon - means "bright noble youth" in Germanic.
