- "Welcome, Death Eaters! Thirteen years it's been, and yet, here you stand as if it were only yesterday. We are still united under the Dark Mark then! Or are we?"
- —Voldemort greeting his Death Eaters in the Little Hangleton graveyard.
Francis Crabbe was a pure-blood wizard, a Death Eater and the father of Vincent Crabbe. Crabbe fought at the First Wizarding War. He didn't search for Lord Voldemort after his downfall, but this was forgiven in 1995, after Voldemort's return at the Little Hangleton graveyard, in which Crabbe was present. Crabbe fought at several battles of the Second Wizarding War, including the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, after which he was imprisoned in Azkaban. Crabbe possibly escaped in 1997 and fought at the Battle of Hogwarts, during which his son, Vincent, was accidentally killed by his own Fiendfyre. After the battle, Crabbe was again acquitted.
Mr Crabbe was born into the Crabbe family, a Pure-blood Wizarding family. He was the grand-nephew Irma Crabbe, wife of Pollux Black.
First Wizarding War
Crabbe was a Death Eater during the First Wizarding War and was loyal to his master up until his downfall. In the aftermath, Crabbe was inaccurately acquitted of being a Death Eater by the British Ministry of Magic, but escaped justice by pleading ignorance under the Imperius Curse. Around the downfall of Voldemort, Crabbe and his wife had a baby boy, Vincent Crabbe, who would be educated at Hogwarts from 1991-1998, and he became friends with Gregory Goyle and Draco Malfoy.
Second Wizarding War
- "We'll split into pairs and search, and don't forget, be gentle with Potter until we've got the prophecy, you can kill the others if necessary..."
- — Lucius Malfoy gives orders to the group of Death Eaters
Crabbe was one of the thousands of Death Eaters who returned to Lord Voldemort when he rose to power again in 1995. Voldemort was displeased when he learned that Crabbe didn't attempt to find him, but he forgave him.
During the Second Wizarding War, Crabbe participated in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in 1996, and was paired with Rabastan Lestrange during the pursuit of the six D.A. members. He went with Lestrange to try and capture Harry, Hermione, and Neville, who were hiding in the Time Room. He was likely imprisoned in Azkaban, but re-escaped in 1997.
Battle of Hogwarts
After realizing The-Boy-Who-Lived was at Hogwarts, Lord Voldemort summoned his entire army of Death Eaters, Imperiused Individuals and Dark creatures, including Francis, to the school grounds for battle.
During the Battle, Crabbe's son Vincent (who had also become a Dark Wizard) died by the effects of his own curse. Crabbe's reaction over his son's death was that of horror and grief, as well as fear for his daughter, who had not been among the Slytherins who joined their Death Eater parents and his wife, who had been lost in the crowd during the Battle. He was so angry upon learning that his only son was dead that he punched his long-time friend, Walden Macnair, in the face.
Knowing that his master would not care what happened to his daughter, Crabbe remained among the Death Eaters and watched Voldemort strike down Harry Potter with the killing curse, hoping to use his master's victory to search Hogwarts for his daughter, Crabbe joined the conquering army's triumphant march into the school, but with a face that was described as "a face as pale as a skeleton with sunken, dull eyes, devoid of hope". Upon entering the Entrance Courtyard, the Death Eater army spread out, allowing Francis to slip through the crowd to join his wifeand would both lean against each other for support. Vincenta is then seen among the crowds of school defenders and, upon seeing her, Francis pleads to his daughter to join them and, at Anne's command, Vincenta silently joins her family in defeated silence. However, the Crabbes rebelled against the Death Eaters that once showed that Harry Potter was not dead and that the battle would start, abandoning the battle and fleeing immediately.
Crabbe was cleared out again for his crimes during the war for two reasons. The first was a lie because he once again that it was controlled by the Imperius Curse, the second was that he had a very long and complete list of names who joined the Dark Lord.
