- "Show your true self. Welcome to the Iron Rose Clan."
- —Gaia Cech challenges, then greets, Beto Kl'rt to the community of the Iron Rose Clan
Gaia Jahaila Cech, occasionally alternatively nicknamed "G'iah", later designated DT-533, is a half-Magicar Syldavian witch and the only daughter of Drelago and Jahaila Cech (née Kuàng). The daughter and granddaughter of loyal Death Eaters of the Dragon Lord, Gaia was raised to believe firmly in the ideologies of her families' master regarding the global unification that was the Dragon Lord's aim and grew up in an atmosphere of worship to the wizard as grandchild to one of the leaders of the Zyldav Zentral Revolutzionär Komitzät, Jingyi Kuàng, who then took Gaia as her own ward after both of Gaia's parents perished fighting for the Dragon Lord during the Second Global Wizarding War. Though originally, Gaia received the education of a witch at Howlington Academy (an private institution with a student body primarily composed of individuals capable of magic, but who were fully or at least partially of a heritage that included non-human ancestors), where she became acquainted with a fellow schoolmate, a werewolf student, Freddy Lupin, who best knew her for the sarcastic and sassy, yet simultaneously closed off, nature she demonstrated, Gaia was later pulled out by her grandmother as a measure to ensure her safety when the appointed commander of the Z.Z.R.K., Igor Müsstler, plotted to instigate a coup d'état against the royal family, although the excuse given to Headmistress Pincus and the staff was one of her being sent to study abroad. In a sense of things, Jingyi was in some way truthful, as Cech continued to study, only this time on the secluded island that served as home to the Syldavian branch of the Death Eater Preparatory Academy. While a student there, Gaia was trained under a study initiative that had been increased to include a larger military curriculum by individuals from the Otherworld that had been, before they fled the collapse of Imperial influence in the Northern Empire's outermost territories and been subsequently recruited to the Zyldav Zentral Revolutzionär Komitzät, been instructors at several Imperial Academies. Such individuals would select the young Cech as a cadet for their Future Imperial Leaders Military Preparatory Program, although Cech's dearest and truest ambition was simply to become a pilot, allowing her to fly, which she loved after being introduced to aerial racing by her father, Drelago, a pro racer, although her father's decision to support the Dragon Lord led to an estrangement with his brothers that caused Gaia to not knowing her uncles Yeager Cech, a former pilot in the United Alliance of Magical Races, and famed sky racer Marcus Speedstar. Gaia was also taught by her parents, then by Jingyi, the value of honour that compelled her to always keep her word, which would be a strong factor in her later life choices.
When the Z.Z.R.K. failed in their plot and was exposed and fractured into numerous successor groups as a result, Gaia and her grandmother both escaped captured and fled with an assembled remnant of uncaptured Death Eaters to the Kingdom of Syldavia's wild coast, where they founded the Iron Rose Clan to preserve the customs of the Death Eaters in Syldavia and begin rebuild the forces of the Z.Z.R.K. from converted wizards who had lost faith in the Ministry of Magic and wanted to live a life of magic in the open, akin to the aims of the Dragon Lord. While her grandmother, Jingyi Kuàng, collaborated secretly with the warlords of many other Zyldav Zentral Revolutzionär Komitzät remnants to restore the organization under the command of herself and the Umbra Council, Gaia, who had risen to the age of fifteen, and in spite of her youth, Gaia Cech was nonetheless permitted to become an operative of the Clan and its radicalized armed forces, the Iron Rose Resistance, which she joined out of her own ambition to see the world. As she progressed, however, Gaia came to wonder if taking power by force was the only option there was and ultimately, her devotions began to waver between her moral code and family loyalty, resulting in Gaia coming to commune with her estranged uncle Yeager Cech, and his organization, the Sons of the Dragon, agreeing to keep them informed of the community's activities as long as offensive action was not undertaken against her grandmother and the Iron Rose Clan, still hoping to make the world a better place, although she kept this new connection a secret from her surrogate mother. Gaia further kept faith in the Northern Empire due to her family history, however, and truly believed it was a source of order and the freedom of a single ideal.
The initially neutral attitude that Gaia Cech felt towards a group of non-magical practitioners of ancient witchcraft known merely as witches took a turn, however, when she was attacked by members of the organization attacked her while in France, leaving her with a wide scar down from her cubital fossa. Shortly afterwards, Gaia was again enrolled into Howlington, now in her sixth year, where she reunited with Freddy, who she learnt had begun to practice ancient witchcraft, and met his friends, the Misfits. Though Gaia's attitude towards the practice of 'witchcraft' made her hostile towards Lupin and thus prevented her from befriending the Misfits initially, running against the half-werewolf Scarlet Jagger (who was one of Freddy's two best friends) in the candidacy for school prefect, when she discovered that Freddy had been captured by witches of the New Salem Coven, she teamed up with the other Misfits to rescue him, considering herself and Freddy, despite their differences, to nonetheless be part of the "same pack". Gaia subsequently helped Scarlet and her friends storm the Coven's headquarters in Seattle, distracting the coven witches while Scarlet and Batty Caniner stopped Zamara from forcing Freddy to cast the mortality curse, which would wipe out all pure-werewolves, which the teenagers successfully prevented. Gaia lost the prefect election to Scarlet Jagger, who she formed a friendship with, being welcomed into the Misfits.
As a student in Howlington, Gaia's school year would be one that was embroiled with various adventure that she experienced with her classmates, although it would on occasion lead to her becoming involved in acts that, though well-intentioned, would be interpreted by her teachers as acts of mischief. The year would also coexist with an upsurge in activity from both the Wilderwolves, a splinter faction of the werewolf community allied with the Death Eaters, and Monster Hunters, although controversially, the Misfits would come to befriend an aspiring young werewolf hunter by the name of Indigo Ragger, who remained unaware of her friends' true identities until the capture of Freddy Lupin by her parents, who were secret hunters themselves. Cech, along with her Howlington classmates, would aspire to join the Night Patrol, but found their practical examination cancelled due to the increase in danger from both the Wilderwolves and Hunters. Despite this, however, the Misfits, Gaia (who remained unaware of the fact that the Wilderwolves were being secretly sponsored by her grandmother's organization, the Death Eaters) included played a pivotal role in helping the Night Patrol retake Wolf's Rock from the control of the Wilderwolves, during which she and her friends separately fought the Wilderwolves and Monsters Hunters, who's actions were being manipulated by 'Alpha One', the mysterious leader of the Wilderwolves. To the class's shock and anger, however, Freddy was accused afterwards by his uncle Hotspur and the Wolf's Council of being the reason for the Monster Hunters' recent attacks due to his friendship with Indigo and was subsequently expelled from Howlington, despite the protests of Principal Pincus, who the Council fired in response to her refusal to abide with Lupin's expulsion, leaving care of Gaia and the others to Vice-Principal Ric Rawls.
Rawls, however, proved to be less then focused on his students' education, his first lesson being to set them on a treasure hunt to discover a hidden chamber beneath the school. This chamber, which had once been a detention room, was subject to a cave in that trapped Gaia and her friends (minus Batty, who's weredog form's size allowed her to slip through and find help), although they were saved by Freddy and Pincus, who proceeded to then blackmail her successor into allowing Lupin to return to Howlington, much to Gaia and the rests' delight. Under Rawls' supervision, the Howlington class participated in the Milford Mangle smackdown, but along with the most of her classmates, Gaia broke off from the contest to assist in saving an infant girl, reconciling with Indigo Ragger in the process. Soon after, the Misfits discovered their Headmaster's true identity as the enigmatic Alpha One and Cech subsequently participated in the Battle at Howlington Academy, which she took part in as one of the only three students that Ric did not briefly corrupt as Wilderwolves, having been off campus with Freddy and Batty at the time. Undoing the spell cast on her classmates and teachers with the aid of Indigo Ragger, Cech witnessed Rawl escape, but continued her studies at first under the brief supervision of Hotspur Lupin, who's attempt to sell Howlington to Angelique Chumps Gaia and her friends prevented, then Principal Pincus, who resumed her position after Hotspur's term. As part of the Misfits, Gaia helped in the attempts to track down her classmate Ivan Beowulf after he went AWOL with the Moonstone due to him having become slowly defanged from a cut inflicted during the Battle at Howlington by a silver dart, but discovered him to have accidently transformed into a Uberwolf, although the team were ultimately reunited when Ivan was convinced to return, although not before Freddy was also exposed to Moonstone energy that caused his shapeshifting powers to be amplified. The resulting events would lead to the Misfits discovering the existence of the Moonstone's other half, the Doom Rock, which they proceeded to steal from the Monster Hunters with the aid of Indigo and her grandmother Rose, who they welcomed as part of their pack. Gaia and the others then proceeded to participate in the fulfilment of the prophecy of Carnis Rex, which they originally believed to be Ric Rawls, but later discovered was Freddy. Despite a one-man attack on Howlington launched by Rawls, who Gaia fought against with the rest of the Howlington Pack, the Night Patrol and the Monster Hunters, who the Ragger family left after the battle and the completion of the prophecy. Following this, Gaia and the Misfit Pack attended their graduation ceremony and began attending normal high school now that Milford was aware of the werewolves' existence. As a result, Gaia shared her classes with Freddy, Batty and Aggie Bean.
Along with the other Misfits, Gaia was later recruited by Principal Pincus to a black-ops version of the Night Patrol created by Pincus and the Howlington HPE teacher Ms. Afeaki: the Howlington Bureau of Investigation, or H.B.I., which was founded to privately investigate strange creature sightings in the area, despite a law being passed by Mayor Hotspur Lupin that forbad werewolves from transforming at night. Investigating several cases that led to the discovery of the mysterious Book of Hath, which they believed to be the source of the unusual creatures, the event known as 'Wolfageddon', which saw most of the town endure the traumatic experience of being briefly turned into wolves, caused mass hysteria to break out that forced the H.B.I. to shut down. As a result of 'Wolfageddon', the robotic Cat Corps were installed and Gaia, like all shape-changers, was forced to wear a mandatory band that blocked her Magicar abilities, although the crisis that then occurred, which Gaia, along with her old classmates, the Night Patrol and their allies, ended, restoring their public image and allowing the Howlington Bureau of Investigation and Howlington Academy to both be restored. This therefore caused Gaia to become a full-time member of the H.B.I., receiving her education at Howlington instead of high school along with the other Misfits, and she would also take part in a contest that allowed non-monster three individuals to be admitted into Howlington, acting as one of those that the contest applicants had to tag, although things took an unexpected turn when along with most of H.B.I., Gaia was captured by Zimpela, a giant spider creature that hunted shapeshifters, although they were saved by Preah, Rose Ragger, Indigo Ragger and Freddy. Gaia continued to act as part of the H.B.I., despite all three winners of the Humans for Howlington contest ultimately getting expelled due to separate actions and discovered with her classmates a time hole that led to the Viking Age period in time, where they met and befriended Freddy's ancestor, Tora Lupin, helping her to deal with the rising threat of the sorceress Hath, who Gaia and her friends successfully imprisoned within her own book, the Book of Hath.
Following her graduation and service as part of the Howlington Investigation Bureau, Gaia ultimately left the Iron Rose Clan with the blessings of Jingyi Kuàng to seek out her own path, assuming a neutral stance in the resumed Third Global Wizarding War between the United Alliance of Magical Races, who she regarded with a less-than-positive view due to its internal strife, and the Empire of Night. Though she belonged to a group that was part of the Death Eaters, Gaia instead innocently aspired to be an aerial racer and saw repairing the derelict airship Fireball as a second chance at her goal, after having lost her first ship. Cech found work and shelter with her uncle Yeager Cech, a mechanic and veteran of the first half of the war, who owned a garage on the Colossus, a refuelling station and independent community on the edge of the Wild Ocean that, like her, kept a neutral stance in the boiling conflict between the Empire and United Alliance. Yeager would grow to become a fatherly figure for the young Gaia, who also befriended his fellow employees Neeku Vozo and "Bucket." Prior to the invasion of the United Alliance, Gaia became reacquainted with Freddy Lupin, who had secretly become a spy for the Unknown Regions Freedom Fighters rebel movements and posed as an apprentice mechanic and wannabe racer. While Cech was initially frustrated with Lupin's clumsiness and lack of mechanical savvy, she developed a better respect for Freddy as his mechanical skills improved. However, Cech's trust in Yeager and budding friendship with Freddy was tested by the secrecy of Lupin's double life as a spy. Imperial Security Bureau Agent Tierny exploited this fact to drive a wedge between Gaia Cech, Yeager, and Freddy, exposing the latter's true allegiance and provoking Cech to turn on her uncle and friend, furious at Yeager, who she called out for abusing the trust she had placed in him as a father-figure, and Freddy. As a result, when the Colossus residents rebelled against the Death Eaters occupying the station at the time, Gaia turned against her friends to take the hand offered by Tierny and thus joined the Death Eaters.
During the Death Eaters's retreat from the Castilon Archipelago, which the Colossus had fled from, Gaia became a TIE pilot cadet trained by Lieutenant Martha Galek, who subjected her and her classmates to harsh instruction, although she failed to drill into Gaia to same unquestioning allegiance that most of Galek's cadets harboured. Although she attempted at first to abandon any nostalgic sense of loyalty to those connected with her past life, Gaia found herself unwilling to fully abandon the Colossus, which she was pressed for information on by Tierny, who sought to mould her as a protégé. Though Gaia proved to be a skilled pilot who participated in battles fought against the Colossus's resistance group over Aeos Prime and Zilnarth, she gradually became disenchanted with the Death Eaters ruthless commitment to achieving a united world order at any cost and their willingness to disregard sentient life to achieve it, a fact highlighted by the Freedom Fighter leader Catra D'Memirel, who was briefly captured and held aboard the Thunderer, where Cech was stationed. Having fought valiantly in her superior's eyes at Aeos Prime, where she had put herself in life-threatening danger to prevent Freddy Lupin from firing at the Thunderer's command deck, flying her TIE fighter into the missile's line of fire, Gaia was therefore made Second Squadron Commander of Galek's squadron, a position previously denied to her because of her compassion. Following the Blockade of Zilnarth, Tam was promoted to squadron leader after Galek was killed by Catra in the crossfire, but was horrified by what she saw the Death Eaters do, namely her friend and fellow pilot Jace Rucklin firing on an unarmed civilian transport carrying recruits to the Freedom Fighter cause, causing it to sink and killing all its passengers, causing Gaia to quietly wonder to herself what she was choosing to do and resulting in her vomiting in private for several minutes in the hour following the battle. Following the suppression of the Aeos population, Ryvora realized the full darkness of the Death Eaters and defected with the help of her friend Freddy and surrogate father-figure Yeager, who never gave up on her. Working together with Team Colossus, they destroyed Tierny and Commander Pyre's Resurgent-class Seawrecker Thunderer, ending the Death Eaters' hunt for the Colossus.
Gaia subsequently joined the Unknown Regions Freedom Fighters as a pilot and eventual rebel officer aboard the Colossus alongside Freddy and Batty, who she piloted the Fireball alongside in the Battle of Worlds as part of the Citizen's Fleet that rallied to join the United Heroes, arriving at a pinnacle moment in the early battle. When Freddy greeted their allies over comms, Gaia cheerfully backed up her uncle's reprimandings, agreeing that Lupin should shut up, although she was told to quieten as well by her friend in response and subsequently participated in the Battle of Worlds, events of which ultimately resulted in the Dragon Lord being imprisoned within the Lunar Plain, Darkness being again locked away within her prison island and the rest of the Forsworn and Death Eaters being driven back into the Empire, bringing an end to the Third Global Wizarding War, after which Gaia rejoiced with her allies, then attended a funeral ceremony held in honour of Lloyd Garmadon and Harumi, who had died in the battle, standing with the other Misfits and Yeager.
