Marella Lilac Lupin was an Australian-Bulgarian pure-blood werewolf, the wife of Flasheart Lupin, the mother of their only son, Freddy and the late Countess of Clan Lupin. Born a daughter of the Lupin Clan, the ruling subdivision of House Luna, which was one of the most ancient and prestigious of all the werewolf families, Marella studied as a star student of Howlington Academy, where she befriended various students before graduating and going on to marry her clansmen and former classmate, Flasheart Lupin. Assuming the title of Countess as part of her union with Flasheart, Marella ultimately became pregnant with what was their only child, Freddy, with whom she was close to, Marella and Flasheart both raised their son in a loving household, although Marella would not assume the same intense perfectionism that her partner assumed when it came to Freddy's school year education. She was originally part of the Night Patrol, where she assisted in maintaining the law amongst the werewolf community, and was well known for her commitment nature to the Patrol, but was also famed for being skilled in magic and martial combat forms, the same of which was true for many belonging to House Luna.
It therefore came as a shock to many in the werewolf world when, during the Second Global Wizarding War, she and Flasheart opted to led House Luna in breaking away in favour of the ideals of the Dragon Lord and his revolution, joining the Wilderwolves, a werewolf splinter group affiliated with the Death Eaters, allowing the grounds of their ancestral home, Castle Lupin, to be used to house local werewolf refugees that were supportive of the Wilderwolves and the Dragon Lord. While they were initially willing to ignore the terrorist acts being carried out if it was in the name of building a better tomorrow for their son to live in and inducted their son as part of the order, Marella grew disillusioned by the extremist methods of her master and as a result, when her husband again led her clan in breaking away to form the Wolf Resistance, Marella was a member of the Alpine Owls and participated in the Siege of Castle Mollegor.
After the war, the Lupin Clan eventually rose to the position of ruling house with the election of Flasheart as their High Howler, soon after which his and Marella's son began his school years at Howlington Academy. The Lupins, who had settled in Flasheart's home of Farfang Manor, remained allies of the Order of the Phoenix, but Marella and Flasheart remained unaware of their son's growing fascination with the magic of the wandering 'Shadowmen' witches, who werewolves had long harboured a hatred for that was recuperated in a centuries-long feud, forcing Freddy to study in secrecy. At an unspecified point in time, however, Marella passed away, leaving her husband a widower and their son a both determined to making his late dam, as well as his father, proud.
