Philemon Goreclaw was a Muggle man who served as captain to a gang of pirates, who he led from his war galley, the Ishtfana. Greek by origin, Philemon and his followers were a blight to the coastline of the Balkan Peninsula for several years, raiding and pillaging settlements while he eventually assumed the nickname 'Goreclaw', derived from a scarlet gauntlet that he wore over his right palm. At some point, knowledge of the pirate captain and his vicious temperament reached the ears of Duchess Sørine Khi, who the Ishtfana pirates would clash with at a later date. In between late 2029 and early 2030, Philemon Goreclaw and his crew entered into an alliance with the Imperial leader Esteban Flores, who would hire the corsairs to wreak havoc in the Adriatic Sea, then later recruited them for an attack on the port city Dbrnouk, which they captured with a strike force from the Z.Z.R.K. Remnants and the Ishtfana proceeded to use as a base of action for launching attacks on passing trade crafts.
Several days after the occupation begun, the invader forces sighted what they believed was a small, unarmed trade ship making its voyage past Dbrnouk, which Philemon dispatched the Ishtfana to hunt down and destroy. Rather that lead the pursuit himself, however, 'Goreclaw' entrusted command to the manageable skills of his first mate Kyrios while he himself remained behind onshore. Thus, he was present when his galley returned to port apparently triumphant, but while scrutinizing what sailors he could see aboard her deck, Philemon Goreclaw was the first to realize that the Ishtfana was in fact now in the hands of an unknown party of enemies, which he swiftly attempted to make clear to his Death Eater allies. Shortly after his revelation, however, Goreclaw was killed when an Atlatl dart thrown by Jörmungand Nassera impaled him through the chest, his death marking the beginning of the Siege of Dbrnouk.
